What Is Vowlet?
Vowlet is a beautifully designed iOS app that helps you make promises visible. Create personal or team vows — with check-in tasks, witness messages, and progress tracking — to stay accountable and achieve your goals together.
Key features include:
- Create & Manage Vows — Set meaningful promises with titles, descriptions, categories, priorities, and due dates.
- Check-In Tasks — Track daily, weekly, or custom-cycle tasks with multiple check-in methods (text, exercise, sleep, and more).
- Team Sharing — Invite friends and family to collaborate via CloudKit sharing. Assign roles as a Promiser (the person fulfilling the vow) or a Witness (the person holding them accountable).
- Statistics & Insights — Visualize your progress with detailed completion stats.
- Notifications & Reminders — Stay on track with timely push notifications.
- iCloud Sync — Seamlessly sync all your data across devices.
- Categories — Organize vows by built-in or custom categories such as Work, Study, Health, Life, and more.
- HealthKit Integration — Automatically check in for exercise and sleep goals using Apple Health data.
Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started
Q: How do I create a new vow?
A: Tap the “+” button on the main screen. Fill in the vow title, description, category, priority, start date, and due date. Add check-in tasks to define what you’ll track, then publish your vow.
Q: What are the different vow statuses?
A: A vow progresses through the following lifecycle:
| Status |
Description |
| Creating |
Draft stage — the vow is being set up. |
| Inviting |
Invitations have been sent to participants. |
| Pending Effect |
All participants confirmed; waiting for the start date. |
| Effective |
The vow is active and check-ins are being tracked. |
| Ended |
The vow has reached its due date or been concluded. |
Q: Can I edit a vow after it’s been published?
A: You can edit a vow while it is in a pre-active status (Creating, Inviting, or Pending Effect). Once a vow becomes Effective, certain fields are locked to preserve accountability.
Team Sharing & Collaboration
Q: How does team sharing work?
A: Vowlet uses Apple’s CloudKit sharing to let you collaborate on vows with others. You can invite participants via the team sharing feature in Settings. Each participant can be assigned as a Promiser or a Witness.
Q: What is the difference between a Promiser and a Witness?
A:
- Promiser: The person responsible for fulfilling the vow and completing check-in tasks.
- Witness: The person who monitors progress and can send the first witness message to encourage the promiser.
Q: Why can’t my team member see the shared vow?
A: Make sure both parties are signed in to the same iCloud account region and have iCloud Drive enabled. The recipient must accept the CloudKit sharing invitation. If issues persist, try the following:
- Go to Settings → Data and verify that iCloud sync is enabled.
- Ask the other person to check their iCloud sharing invitations.
- Ensure both devices are connected to the internet.
Check-In & Tasks
Q: What check-in methods are available?
A: Vowlet supports several check-in methods:
- Text — Log a text entry to confirm completion.
- Exercise — Set a calorie target; can auto-check-in via HealthKit.
- Sleep — Set a sleep duration target; can auto-check-in via HealthKit.
Q: What does “Auto Check-In” mean?
A: When enabled for exercise or sleep tasks, Vowlet reads data from Apple Health (HealthKit). If your recorded activity meets the target, the check-in is automatically marked as completed — no manual action required.
Q: Why isn’t my auto check-in working?
A:
- Open the iOS Settings app → Privacy & Security → Health → Vowlet and ensure the required permissions are granted.
- In Vowlet, go to Settings → Privacy & Permissions and verify that HealthKit access is enabled.
- Make sure the health data (e.g., Active Energy or Sleep Analysis) is actually being recorded by your device or a connected wearable.
Notifications
Q: I’m not receiving reminders. What should I do?
A:
- Open the iOS Settings app → Notifications → Vowlet and ensure notifications are allowed.
- In Vowlet, go to Settings → Notifications and confirm your notification preferences are properly configured.
- Check that Do Not Disturb or Focus mode is not blocking Vowlet notifications.
Data & iCloud Sync
Q: Is my data synced across devices?
A: Yes. Vowlet uses iCloud (CloudKit) to sync your vows, check-in logs, and settings across all your Apple devices signed in with the same Apple Account.
Q: My data isn’t syncing. How can I fix it?
A:
- Ensure you are signed in to iCloud on all devices.
- Check that iCloud Drive is enabled in iOS Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → iCloud Drive.
- Go to Vowlet’s Settings → Data to verify sync status.
- Make sure you have sufficient iCloud storage space.
- Try restarting the app or your device.
Q: Can I export or delete my data?
A: You can manage your data from Settings → Data within the app. If you need assistance with data deletion requests, please contact us at the email address below.
Privacy
Q: What data does Vowlet collect?
A: Vowlet is designed with privacy in mind:
- No tracking: Vowlet does not track you across apps or websites.
- Local + iCloud storage: Your vow data is stored locally on your device and synced via your personal iCloud account.
- HealthKit data is read only when you explicitly grant permission, and is never uploaded to external servers.
For full details, please refer to our Privacy Policy within the app under Settings → About Vowlet → Privacy Policy.

Troubleshooting
The app crashes or freezes
- Force-quit the app and reopen it.
- Ensure your device is running the latest version of iOS.
- Update Vowlet to the latest version from the App Store.
- If the problem persists, restart your device and try again.
A vow is stuck in an unexpected status
- Vow statuses are derived from dates and participant states. If a vow appears stuck, check that the start and due dates are correct.
- For team vows, ensure all invited participants have responded to their invitations.
- Try pulling down to refresh the vow list.
Check-in data appears to be missing
- iCloud sync may take a moment. Ensure you are connected to the internet and wait a few minutes.
- Go to Settings → Data and verify that sync is working properly.
- If another team member’s check-ins are missing, ask them to open the app so their data syncs.
System Requirements
- Platform: iPhone (iOS)
- Minimum iOS Version: iOS 17.0 or later
- iCloud Account: Required for data sync and team sharing
- Apple Health: Optional, for auto check-in features
